Picture this…It’s Christmas Day. You’re 7 years old. You open the greatest present of all time. You’re super excited, because you received exactly what you wanted, but there are many pieces and instructions that you have to follow to get it to work for you. The same goes for building a new construction home! It’s all very exciting and you get to watch your dreams be built and the place you call home come to fruition, but there are little things that need to be in place and you can get it to work for you with some simple tips and tricks. Let’s break some of them down by season.
Spring Hints and Hacks

▩ Running a dehumidifier is a complete game-changer. Getting a whole-home dehumidifier and having it run 24 hours a day will reduce the excess moisture in a new construction home. Doing so will ensure the longevity of your laminate flooring, cut down on drywall imperfections, keeps your paint color more true, and less moisture means a healthier home.
Summer Hints and Hacks –
▩ Maintain your lawn in the heat by continuing to water and mow your grass properly. Do not mow your grass lower than 3”. If you choose to use fertilizer, make sure it is a “starter fertilizer” so it won’t shock the newly rooted sod.
▩ Staining and/or sealing your deck or patio steps can help to lengthen the life of the wood.
Fall Hints and Hacks –
▩ As evenings become chilly, opening windows can help reduce energy costs, and studies show it can help you sleep better.
▩ Prior to snow falling, remove screens and store them safely in the utility room or storage closet.
Winter Hints and Hackss –
▩ Do not use salt on sidewalks or driveways, as it can damage the surface and cause erosion of the concrete.
▩ Raking your roof (removing snow) can prevent ice dams and shingle damage.
▩ Keep rugs close to exterior doors and remove snow or moisture from pets and shoes to help prevent damage to laminate flooring.
▩ Moisture in the home will collect on windows as temperatures drop. Wipe any moisture from sills, window jambs and flooring. Opening blinds and shades can help reduce moisture from collecting. Continue to run your dehumidifier with your furnace fan set to ON.
