Jenna and Brady were set on a plan and now were tasked with picking a lot. Read part three of their journey picking a lot for their new home.
Choosing a Lot
Now that we had decided the style of home we wanted to build, it was time to choose a lot! We started by hopping on to Thomsen’s website to look at the available neighborhoods and lots. Before our meeting to put our choice on paper, we also drove through the neighborhoods that interested us to get a better feel for the other houses, lot sizes, if there were parks or bike trails, and so forth.
When we went in to our meeting with Nate from Thomsen Homes, we had a good idea of where we wanted to build, but the information he provided us really helped solidify our decision! As we sat in the conference room, Nate pulled up the different lot choices we had pre-selected. He was also able to quickly access the city’s special assessments, the breakdown of projects that the special assessments went towards, and the biggest thing was identifying the lots that were actually suitable to build the house style that we had decided to build. It turned out that some of the lots that we chose were out of the running based on that alone!
This helped us narrow down our lot choices. He was able to give us exact dimensions of the lot (and was even able to pull up our building plans from our first build to give us realistic comparisons!) Did I mention this was all done on a giant screen to really give us a detailed look at the different choices?
I truly thought going into this meeting that we had it all figured out with our lot choice, but Nate proved otherwise! The combination of doing our own research by driving around and the information he was able to provide led us to choose the perfect lot for our family’s needs! There is a lot to consider when choosing where to build, but Thomsen helps you weigh out many different options so that you can feel confident in your choice!
